statements

Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature. I completely agree with this statement. Most people would say that they are incapable of doing these things, but given the right motivation they would. Some people do it without motivation. this is what causes problems.
Sometimes you have to do things other people consider wrong to get ahead. I semi agree with this. It depends what the wrong thing is. If it is killing somebody than that person should not do that. If it is tell somebody that another person went one way, but he went the other, just to buy him some time then it would be okay.

hit or miss

Over the course of ninth grade I have had a few hits and many misses. One of my misses was the poetry unit. I did learn a lot about poetry. I did not however enjoy it at all. Some of the poems that we read did have some creative methods though.
One hit that I had was the ATDPTI unit. I enjoyed most of it. I feel that I became a better reader by reading that book. I enjoyed that there was not many assignments outside of class besides reading. The reading was not bad at all though.

Purple hibiscus strategies

As you all know we are reading the novel Purple hibiscus. It is a fairly difficult read that requires strategies to understand. For starters, I read it with a pencil to mark things that are important. I also use this pencil to write down connections and predictions of what is happening, or will happen. This strategy has been very successful for me.
Another strategy I use to read this book is reading with low volume no lyric music. This helps me focus on the book. It also allows me to read faster than I normally would. This method has been very effective. It is effective in the sense that it has made me an overall better reader.

prompt response

As a child I watched a lot of tv. I quickly chose my favorite and threw out the ones I didn't like. One of my favorite shows was Tom and Jerry. Like many I liked Jerry, the mouse. He was my favorite, because he always was one step ahead of tom.
Another show I liked was Ben Ten. I liked this show, because every episode was a surprise. It was a surprise in the sense that you did not know which creature he would turn into to solve the problem at hand. I forget what the name of the creature that my favorite is, but it was the one that could shape shift into any functional object. My other favorite was the ghost guy.

political article response

Political Article

In this article author Ledyard King discusses the lifting of the carbon emission restriction. Trump feels that this would increase jobs and revitalize the coal industry. He also talks about how trump says global warming is a "hoax". he plans on defunding the clean power plan. Trump also wants to pull out of the Paris climate agreement.
I completely agree with Trump. Lifting the carbon emission restriction would increase jobs. It would do this by making the coal industry larger. I agree with trump when he says global warming is a hoax. I feel that the globe may be warming, but it has nothing to do with humans. The earth has gone through thousand of cycles of hot and cold.

Its great to have grandparents. There are many obvious things that grandparents are good at. Loving, caring, and spreading joy. I will point out some less obvious things about my grandparents.
One thing that my grandparents do is pronounce things very strangely. An example is Italy, they pronounce it, It-Lee. Another example is Italian, they pronounce it I-talian. Another thing about my grandparents is that they are extremely gullible. If they read something somewhere or see it on T.V. than its right, no matter what anybody says.

learning reflection

Over the course of ninth grade I have learned a lot of things about myself. One, is that I learn better when I see things. For example I could memorize a graph better than a teacher telling me what to do. On the other hand a teacher could explain a diagram and then I would definitely remember it. I will use this knowledge to help remember things better.
Another thing thing that I learned about myself is that I am good at managing my time. I usually do my work on the last day till its due. You may think that this is a bad strategy. To me it is not. I set aside time to do the work that I need to do.

free post

Over Mardi Gras me and my family usually go on vacation. This tradition did not change this year. I went to Whistler, Canada to ski. I had a cold and a runny nose, so the plane ride was very painful. During the last fifteen minutes of the ride my ears felt like the were being ripped off while exploding. After the pain and the waiting on the flight, I had finally arrived.
I ski and snowboard, so I always get to pick what I want to do every time. This time I snowboarded for the first day. After falling about thirty times, I then realized that I was better at skiing. I swapped to skis and I was off. I had a great time and I think that my family did too.

song analysis

Heathens by twenty one pilots

"Wait for them to ask you who you know ". In this portion of the song we see that the author emphasized the "oo" sound. I feel that he does this, because he wants to give an eerie feeling. Another line is "They say newcomers have a certain smell". This line uses sibilance to give a slithery creepy feel.
In the line "Yeah, I trust issues, not to mention" the author uses repetition of "t" sounds .
I think the author does this to create a sharp sounding line. This sharp line contrasts very well with the smooth slithering sound of sibilance and the "oo".

Poem

drip drop went the rain
as the slippery spider silk
gathered beads
the spider,
frozen in time,
dangled from a single thread
hoping he wouldn't end up dead
the rain ceased
spider in one
mended its web in the sun

Consonance
Sibilance
Hyperbole

One time about two years ago me and some classmates had a big project. everybody had ideas that we implicated. The despot of a teacher commanded that we build the project out of things we already owned. The owner of home depot was the beneficiary of my parents money. After constructing the makeshift project we presented.
I saw grins on my classmates faces. I knew what they were gawking at. The project made last minute by me and my friends. We shakily presented and waited for questions. We were all waiting for our projects demise.

reading response

In ATDPTI I really admire Junior as a character. He looks funny, stutters, and has a lisp. despite these challenges he took a leap of faith and decided to transfer to Rearden. the book surprised me, by how quickly and unexpectedly people at the new school start to accept Junior. I like that he has made a friends with Gordy, I think they have a lot in common.
Another character I like is Rowdy. He stands up for the little guy and isn't scared of a fight. He would fight anybody that touched junior. However, I dislike how he suddenly hates Junior since he moved schools. It seems to me that he is overreacting.

Research Reflection

This past week, I learned a lot of things about writing and research. One is as you all probably know, I accidentally deleted my outline. I know, I'm really dumb. Now I know how to avoid doing that ever again. That experience made me very mad and stressed.
Another thing I learned about the writing process is that a good outline can help a lot. After rewriting my outline and improving it, writing the actual rough draft was a lot easier. I mostly just copy and Pasted the information over while commenting on it in between. In total I only spent about four hours writing, in my opinion that is pretty short. Other than a few mess-ups I have overall enjoyed the writing process.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is one of those holidays that I don’t really care for. All it is, is drunk people throwing beads with a thick layer beer and whatever else was happening on the float at drunk people’s faces. The only reason I like it is that we don’t have to go to school and that I usually go skiing during the break. Every year a parade passes right in front of my house. After all of the “fun” is over I have to clean up all of the beer cans left around the house.
One Mardi Gras, when I was about ten years old and my views of Mardi Gras weren’t tainted I invited some friends to my house for the parade I mentioned before. I was having a great time. I had a huge bag full of beads and was drenched in beer. Then some group of jerks on a float thought it would be funny to pelt a ten-year-old kid with rock hard moon pies. That was it Mardi Gras was ruined and it still is, and wil probably be that way until I die.

reading response

As you all know we are reading the Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian. I don’t quite understand title of this book, because it says part time. This might be mentioned later in the book, but I have not come across anything about part time. I do like how the Author wrote this book like a journal. I love the funny illustrations thrown in every few pages.

Over my years I have not come across many books that can make me laugh. This one does the job! Every three pages I catch myself giggling at a sarcastic joke. I love how the author is writing about himself. Everything good and everything bad. I look forward to finishing this book.

first semester reflection

In the first semester I learned many things. One being that my friends are always there for me. It was comforting to know that everybody was just as miserable as I was. The age old expression misery loves company is definitely true. Every time I had a bad day it made feel great to know that someone was having a worse day than I was.
Another thing I have learned was time management is very important. I still have no clue how to do this. Between sleeping, eating, using the bathroom, after school activities, and talking to the before mentioned friends, I calculate that on an average day I have -30 seconds to complete my homework. This is obviously an exaggeration, but it has sought me that there is only a certain amount of hours in the day. I would like to continue writing about things I have learned from the first semester, but my -30 seconds are up.

Pompeii

My research topic is Pompeiian life eruption, excavation, and modern Pompeii. Pompeii was a prosperous city under Roman rule. It was a popular resort location for rich romans and kings. Mt. vesuvius was the volcano that froze a day of Roman life in 79 A.D. Mt. vesuvius stood 4,190 feet tall.
Most people think that there were little or no survivors of Pompeii. This is not the case. Pompeii's Population was around 20,000 people. Of these about 500-1500 people escaped in time to save their lives. Two of these people decided to write about their terrifying experience.

Winter Break

Christmas is my favorite holiday. Im not quite sure if summer vacation is a holiday, but if it was it would come in second. I have reasons for liking christmas more. one is that my hole family gets together. Two is the religious aspect and the presents; who doesn't like presents. three is the weather, i love the cold.
First my grandparents come in town. Then my grandma cooks all day christmas eve. We then eat all of the food. Then we open a few of our presents, because my sister can't ever wait. The next day we open our presents.

research update

So far my research has gone well. The finding of sources has been the most difficult part. The reason for this is because not many sources survived Mt. Vesuvius. Other than that the writing process has been fairly easy so far. The easiest part about the writing progress was citing the sources.
I think that this was the easiest part, because it required little to no effort. Notecards have been the second easiest thing, because it is a fairly quick process. I am glad I am writing notecards, because it will be easier for me in the future. One of the things that has bothered me about this project is that we have to use noodle tools. Noodle tools is not a very good website. Today I was working on notecards and it crashed and erased half of my card. It made me furious.
