There are many critical scenes in the Lord of the flies. One of them is on pages 166-168. This is the scene when Jack's tribe attacks ralph's. On page 168 Piggy says "I thought they wanted the conch." While reading this a reader should notice that they did not want the conch, but did want Piggy's specs.
The conch is a sign of law and order, so when the savages don't take it, they are demonstrating that they do not care about any of the above. Another reason that this is a critical scene is because it demonstrates how Piggy is still in his right mind. The savages took the specs so that they could make fire. Fire is a symbol of power and they took the only means of making it. This shows that they are in power.
