how to drive a stick shift

Most cars nowadays are automatic, but many car enthusiast prefer to drive a stick shift or a manual. There are many reasons why somebody would want to drive a stick. One is that they are faster than automatic. Two is it is pretty fun. In the past recent years automotive companies have made cars with paddle shifters which is NOT A MANUAL.
First you start the engine by rotating the key clockwise in the designated slot and letting go, or on newer cars press the ignition button. For those of you that do not know, in a manual car there is a third pedal to the left of the brakes called a clutch. To go forward you should start by pressing the clutch all the down, then you slowly let off the clutch as you are slowly pressing down the accelerator. Then you drive like normal until you get to around fifteen mph, then you press the clutch shift to gear two slowly release the clutch and press the accelerator. keep doing this process to go faster. To stop you must press the clutch, then the brakes. That is a basic guide to driving a manual vehicle.

  2. Ian,
I do not know how to drive a stick shift, but I wish I did. That's a useful thing to know. I'll try it some time.
