writing center reflection
Last week i went to the writing center. My writing fellow was John Harris. He is a senior. If any of y'all know John Harris, then you know that he is a jokester. Although John jokes, he did help me with my paper.
I went into the writing center with a completed outline, nothing else. At first John didn't help. Twenty minutes into the visit i started to get somewhere. I had three lines written and they were pretty solid. Overall the visit helped me develop my paper.
character
My characters name is Cosnester Smiff. He has an afro. He likes Soccer and Football. He is 4'3' and is from Florida. One day Cosnester decided to change his name.
Cosnester went to the name changing office. He had the name he wanted in mind. Before he walked in, he got hit by a bus. He got up and continued walking in. He then changed his name to EcsQuisitine Bubléshislow.

literary analysis
As we all know, Writing this literary analysis has been pretty difficult. It has been for me anyway. Writing this has made me become a better writer. I have learned many things from this experience, so far. I have also struggled with many things.
one of those things was the introduction. i had trouble making a good first sentence that draws the reader in. I do feel like my thesis is pretty good though. Another thing was the conclusion. i had trouble linking all of the information together and summarizing.

fruit cake
Whether it is ten seconds old or ten years old, fruitcake always tastes like garbage with sugar on top. On the other hand many people buy canned foods in case of an emergency such as a nuclear fallout and what not. Why people do this i don't know, because they can buy twice as many fruitcakes as they can cans of food that last ten years. Fruitcakes last FOREVER.
It may not taste like fruit or cake, but for some reason people think they would make great gifts. "Hey there's the worst tasting thing on the planet, I'm going to buy that for somebody i care about." my family get like three fruitcakes every year. Before that gift is handed off to anybody in my family, its already in the trash. No one eats it, no one likes it, it is indestructable and it doesn't go bad it starts out bad. FRUITCAKE.

how to drive a stick shift
Most cars nowadays are automatic, but many car enthusiast prefer to drive a stick shift or a manual. There are many reasons why somebody would want to drive a stick. One is that they are faster than automatic. Two is it is pretty fun. In the past recent years automotive companies have made cars with paddle shifters which is NOT A MANUAL.
First you start the engine by rotating the key clockwise in the designated slot and letting go, or on newer cars press the ignition button. For those of you that do not know, in a manual car there is a third pedal to the left of the brakes called a clutch. To go forward you should start by pressing the clutch all the down, then you slowly let off the clutch as you are slowly pressing down the accelerator. Then you drive like normal until you get to around fifteen mph, then you press the clutch shift to gear two slowly release the clutch and press the accelerator. keep doing this process to go faster. To stop you must press the clutch, then the brakes. That is a basic guide to driving a manual vehicle.

symbolism
There was once an old man. This old man had a cane. He used the cane to lean on when he was upset, mad, or even happy. The old man needed his cane all the time everywhere.
The old mans cane represents people that a person might look for in time of need. When you are upset you might turn to a mentor. when you're mad you might turn to a punching bag. When you are happy you might turn to a friend. What is your walking cane in life?

Today was the cross country state meet. First I rode the bus there which took about four hours. we left at 8:15A.M. State is one of the best parts about being on the cross country team. The bus was hot and was pretty boring.
After we arrived, I walked and got the wristband that allowed me to freely walk wherever I wanted. After that, I cheered on the boys race. After celebrating the win, I went to the big feast that we always have after the meet. After gorging myself on food the parents brought, I hung out for a few hours. Then it was time to come home.

critical scene
There are many critical scenes in the Lord of the flies. One of them is on pages 166-168. This is the scene when Jack's tribe attacks ralph's. On page 168 Piggy says "I thought they wanted the conch." While reading this a reader should notice that they did not want the conch, but did want Piggy's specs.
The conch is a sign of law and order, so when the savages don't take it, they are demonstrating that they do not care about any of the above. Another reason that this is a critical scene is because it demonstrates how Piggy is still in his right mind. The savages took the specs so that they could make fire. Fire is a symbol of power and they took the only means of making it. This shows that they are in power.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
A lot of embarrassing things have happened to me in the past. Some examples are fracturing my tailbone, throwing up in public and so on. I have been embarrassed a lot in my lifetime. I hope you never have to endure what I'm about to tell you. The most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me was the time I shot a guy with a paintball gun.
Me and my cousins were in the woods playing paintball while our parents were inside talking. My cousins live right by this golf course. We played a few rounds, my cousin was wearing a bright baby blue shirt. we decided to play one more. we split up, I saw the baby blue, I shot.
"ooooowwwwww" was what the enraged man said that was getting his terribly off shot golf ball from the woods. He came towards me and said where are you're parents, I told him they were inside. he broke through the doors screaming about what a terrible kid i was and how he was going to sue somebody, yadayada. Anyway, I got punished then and there in front of everybody. That was the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to me.

LOTF response
By the author saying "The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away." he is telling the reader that the kids are becoming animal like. By Jack refusing to give Piggy the conch, we can see that jack does not respect or like Piggy. when Ralph says that Jack is breaking the rules and he says "Who cares?" this tells us that jack does not respect Ralph and is drifting away from society.
This passage is significant in many ways. One, it gets the point across that Jack does not like piggy. Two it shows that Jack is drifting away from society. It also shows jack is obsessed with hunting. It also tells the reader that everybody is drifting away from a lawful world.

Human nature
I believe that all humans are born good. Right after you become self-aware then you are pretty much instantly flawed. I believe that everybody is flawed and that everybody makes mistakes every day. If you don't make mistakes, than you are the only in the world. I do think that some people are more flawed than others, but not everybody is the same.
I believe this, because of my religion. Ever since Adam and Eve first sinned; the human race has been flawed. I also believe in this, because of experience. I know that I am flawed. I have never met anyone that isn't.

Starting the Lord of the Flies, I was not very exited. The title did not interest me, and the first chapter was slow. Then again every book is like that. After reading chapter two and three I started to like the book. It has gradually gotten better since then.
In Lord of the Flies the author uses vivid detail very well. He uses it to describe the physical setting of many places on the island and other things, such as pig droppings. one thing that interest me are that there are only boys on the island. Another is that everything is all related to pigs. I look forward to seeing how this book plays out.

I have recently read Oogy. It is about a dog who was left for dead at an after hours service of a hospital. He had been near fatally injured as part of a dog fighting ring. A chance meeting of his forever family in the vet hospital. The levin's family was grieving the loss of their cat and Oogy filled that loss.
The author uses vivid detail to describe the gruesome wounds of the dog. He also shows vivid detail when talking about how much his family loves this dog. The author then told with vivid detail the eight different operations this dog needed to survive. The author then uses setting to describe the vet and his house. Most of the novel takes place in his house in Philadelphia.

Fall break
On Wednesday night I left Baton Rouge to go to the beach. I grabbed my bags and shoved them into the overloaded car. I jumped into the car and we were off. After the grueling car ride, I vaulted out of the car and grabbed my stuff and ran into the house. I quickly scoped out the house. I bolted upstairs to find the best room. There it was, a king sized bed, with my sisters bag on it!
After arguing for thirty minutes I reluctantly gave in. I fell to a rock hard twin sized bed and fell asleep within twenty seconds. The next day, I woke up and was greeted with a blueberry bagel and the worlds best orange juice. I rode to the beach on my bike and relaxed there for the whole day. I repeated this process until the last day. I packed my stuff and we all went home.

Should We Abandon Louisiana? In Some Ways, We Already Have
Zach Kopplin writes about the the media not broadcasting about the flood. He says that the "tragedy wasn't enough of a selling point-its the media conspiracy that gets people to care". I agree with this, because with my experience, the media will not cover a story, unless it is seen as a threat to people. The media feeds off of scaring Americans and worrying about something that is not even a big deal. It doesn't matter what the story is, as long as they have viewers. Most of the coverage for the flood was from local news stations. The major companies will even pay for the videos from the local news and use on their show and just steal the story. News stations bring realization to other areas during a natural disaster, such as the flood.
I believe that climate change has and is affecting the weather. Other big natural disasters will start happening in other places around the world. Critics use global warming as a reason to give up and abandon Louisiana. I believe Louisiana will not be forgotten or abandon because the Government would hopefully not allow that. According to Kopplin we should blame climate change.
I feel very sorry for all of the flood victims, and am thankful that such a tragedy did not happen to me. I feel that history was made from this flood. Many people have learned what struggle means. If we abandon Louisiana we will be abandoning our culture and history. Rebuilding Louisiana is the best option, in my opinion.

camping
Every year my grandpa, my dad and my cousins all go on this annual camping trip. last weekend was it. Me and my dad got our 500 pounds of gear together, smashed it all into the car, and drove an hour to the woods. We then drove another twenty minutes through the woods on a little dirt path that was covered in mud. We arrived at the site, a little clearing of trees with our tents already set up.
After throwing everything into the tent we then started building a fire. It wasn't that hard, because my grandpa dumped about a gallon of lighter fluid onto a pile of wood and threw a match into it. It looked like somebody had just thrown a grenade at my feet. After that was done, my grandpa gave us the rundown of the area, telling us where and where not to go. It turns out that the only thing we forgot to bring was bug spray. By the time we got out of there I was definitely anemic. even though it is a hassle and we got eaten alive, I look forward to the trip next year.

reading response
I have recently read A&P by John Updike. This short story takes place in a small town outside of Boston in an A&P grocery store. It is about a young man that works at the local A&P. This man then sees three girls walk in, in bathing suits. He then quits his job.
The author uses vivid details to clearly depict the girls. The author said that one of the girls was wearing a "plaid green two piece. She was a chunky kid." I interpreted this as the man not liking the girls, but as they walked through the store, his opinion grew. The author showed great use of vivid details.

100 word story
"bye kathy, your in charge, see you later tonight."
"bye mom"
I sat down at the kitchen table to do my homework. I opened my backpack and pulled out my math binder and my pencil with a feather hanging off the end. I tore through the math problems as if they were steaks and I was a hungry dog. Then I heard the front door open. Then close. I could not see the door due to a wall, blocking the dining room from the front entrance way and the stairs. I froze terror. unable to move I just listened. Heavy footsteps, not like my mothers, slowly creeped past the entrance area. They to my relief turned and bumped their way up the stairs. Minutes went by. I heard the heavy steps come back down the stairs and go out the door. I then remembered that my baby sister was taking a nap upstairs.

What is equality? According to the story Harrison Bergeron equality means everybody is completely equal. Smart people have mental handicaps that don't allow them to think. Strong people have weights around their necks. Pretty people have ugly masks on.
I think that equality is everybody getting the same opportunities and chances, whether you take that chance, or aren't up to the task is then your decision. Harrison Bergeron takes equality to the extreme, making the world a whole lot less productive. If smart people can't think, then nothing would ever change. I hope that this never happens to any civilization. If it does eventually happen then I hope I'm long dead before it does.

dear 7 year old redone
Dear seven year olds, don't complain about homework, its nothing compared to high school. next off don't cry about anything. When you don't get what you want and its not fair, suck it up and forget about it. Life is not fair. plus crying is annoying and will make everybody think your a crybaby. lastly, you should accept that not everybody is going to like you.
My last word of advise is to enjoy being seven while you can. It only lasts one year. Being fifteen does have its perks. Seven was pretty fun though. Just remember this advise and you will definitely survive until you are eight.

I am reading Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney. The Auther has engaged my attention so far by using details to describe the plot. While reading I can actually see what is going on. I have loved reading this extraordinary book. So far the main character, Mitty, has developed the symptoms of small pox.
I feel that this is significant, because the author is foreshadowing. Based on the title I think that there will be some kind of apocalypse. I think this because Mitty is researching small pox and bioterrorism. The author has had me anticipating the fall of New York from the beginning of the book. So far my response to the book has been positive.

9/11 attack
On September, 11, 2001 a terrorist group led by Osama Bin Laden hijacked four planes. The most well known attack on 9/11 was the bombing at the world trade center. 2606 innocent people were killed in those two towers.
Another attack was on the pentagon in Arlington Virginia. The last plane was won back by its passengers and was then crashed in a field. This tragedy was a wake up call on the US. It had led to increase in airport security which has probably stopped many more terrorist attacks.

I am currently reading Code Orange by caroline B. Cooney. The Auther has engaged my attention so far, by keeping me on my toes waiting for something to happen. Another way the author does this is all of the foreshadowing that is happening with the main character doing research on infectious diseases.
The detail that the author uses adds to the book reading experience, because the way that she used vivid details in describing the symptoms of variola major also known as small pox, almost made me gag. So far I Have thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anybody who likes apocalyptic kind of stuff.

Race!
Saturday morning, six A.M. Thats when I wake up to eat breakfast. crunchy peanut butter on toast with a banana, the perfect breakfast. I put on my super short shorts and gold tank top. I was ready to go.
to be continued...
The ride felt like a year. I arrived at Highland to find out I had to run a two mile warm up. After that the race would start. my heart was pumping faster than an engine. TAKE YOUR MARK BAAAAA the sound every runner knows so well.
RACE! 2
The race had just begun, I was already dying only 200m into the race. I pass the half mile mark, then the one. I was half way there, I passed the one and half mark. 800m to go I would tell myself. I could see the finish line, I gave it the rest I had. It was over, I had finished it.
I then had to walk through a long chute at the end. I drank at least three cups of water. Then I hear everybody, cool down. That meant that we had to run at least another mile and a half. This is what happens every saterday if you run cross country.

the Fifth Wave
The Fifth wave, by Rick Yancy, is a
book that has action, adventure, romance, and a sci-fi element. One thing I
noticed, was that the main characters perspective on life changed completely,
along with her actual life, as well. What I liked most was all of the twists
that the Author throws at you. This book is similar to pretty much any other
book about aliens; that is one of the reasons that I disliked the book.
Something that confused me was some of the characters choices, because they did
some very unnecessary things that had no importance to the story.
As I was reading I thought the book
was a little slow, but around the end of the book it was very thrilling. I
think this, because the end is when everything really happened. Another thing I
noticed was that the book was kind of repetitive. It was obvious when the
author was about to throw a curveball.
Overall it was a good book and I would recommend it.
I joined the cross country team,
because I liked the yellow sweatshirts that I always saw people wearing, but it
turns out cross country is so much more. It is a united family, who looks after
one another. It is waking up at six A.M. on a Saturday to go run two miles. It
is john harris cracking jokes to cheer everybody up after nearly dying. Cross
country is more than people think, unfortunately…
Running is in my blood, but it is
not in my legs, my feet, or my lungs. Even though I am not the fastest on the
team, I still enjoy being on it. Cross Country makes me a better person every
day. It has made my pain tolerance go up, a LOT. So if you are thinking about
joining, just do it.
